Flood Response — BASIC

Training content

• Hazard recognition, risk assessment and go/no-go decisions.
• PPE, zones, communications and withdrawal routes.
• Shore-based assistance using basic equipment.
• Individual and team movement in shallow water and responding to loss of balance.
• Supporting evacuation of ambulant people and people with reduced mobility.
• Basic flood protection, hygiene and decontamination.

Participants practise assessment, communication and teamwork in controlled conditions. The module excludes boat operations and advanced techniques in strong currents and does not confer swiftwater technician qualifications. Actual contaminated floodwater is not used.

Who we train

Professional and volunteer firefighters, including KSRG units, and rescuers and other services performing basic tasks in flooded areas.

How we train

Short introductions, demonstrations and team exercises with safety briefings and debriefs. The water component includes instructional and safety cover. Practical assessment takes place in a final scenario.

Settings and connections

Controlled shallow-water site, outdoor training area and classroom. Delivery at the client’s premises is partly possible, subject to approval of the site and water conditions.
