Hazardous Materials Response — BASIC

This module consolidates initial actions at hazardous-materials incidents, connecting hazard recognition, worksite organisation and practical use of available equipment.

Training content

  • Substance information: ADR/UN, CLP and safety data sheets.
  • Properties relevant to operational safety.
  • PPE selection, buddy checks and entry/exit arrangements.
  • Preparing a multi-gas detector and interpreting basic readings.
  • Establishing and adjusting zones using assessment and measurements.
  • Basic release mitigation, casualty evacuation and gross decontamination.

Participants combine tasks in a transport or industrial incident scenario using safe simulants rather than real hazardous substances. This module does not replace formal KSRG training and excludes radiometry and specialist CBRNE operations.

Who we train

Professional and volunteer firefighters, other fire services, industrial rescue teams, technical and emergency teams, and industry or infrastructure staff responsible for the initial response.

How we train

Short introductions, demonstrations, paired and team exercises, followed by a final scenario and debrief.

Settings and connections

Client’s facility, industrial site or training ground; a classroom and safe outdoor area may be used. The client’s detectors are preferred. Industrial delivery reflects local hazards and equipment.
