Life-threatening Bleeding Control

Practical training in recognising life-threatening bleeding and selecting and applying appropriate control techniques. Content is adapted to participants’ existing skills and qualifications.
Training enquiriesThis module prepares participants to recognise life-threatening external bleeding promptly, apply an appropriate control technique and reassess the effectiveness of their actions.
Training content
- Recognition of life-threatening bleeding.
- Assessment of the bleeding site and type.
- Direct pressure and pressure dressings.
- Wound packing, including junctional wounds.
- Use of haemostatic dressings.
- Selection and correct application of a tourniquet.
- Reassessment of bleeding control and the casualty’s condition.
- Prevention of heat loss and preparation for further care or evacuation.
The procedures and decision-making covered are adapted to the PP, KPP or RM training level.
Who we train
People providing first aid, rescuers with advanced first aid qualifications and paramedics. Content and teaching methods reflect participants’ competencies. Groups with similar levels of prior training provide the most consistent learning environment.
How we train
Short introductions and instructor demonstrations followed by intensive practice using active bleeding simulators, dressings, wound-packing materials and training tourniquets. Skill stations, short scenarios and debriefing.
Settings and connections
The module can be delivered on its own or incorporated into other rescue disciplines. Scenarios can reflect participants’ workplace, equipment and operational conditions.
