Structural Shoring

Level 2 — Technical Skills · 8–12 h

This module develops selected shoring techniques for collapsed-structure operations. Participants learn about equipment, working methods and the limitations of the systems demonstrated.

  • Transition from proprietary shoring systems to timber shoring.

Participants construct shores at prepared stations. Practical work includes discussion of applications and risks. Performance is assessed through observation.

Who we train

Volunteer and professional firefighters, rescue associations and other rescue organisations, and Territorial Defence personnel preparing for collapsed-structure operations.

How we train

An introduction followed by practical exercises and topic-by-topic debriefing. The unit’s equipment may be used by prior agreement.

Settings and connections

Natural or simulated rubble site, or a suitable vacant training building. Client-site delivery requires prior agreement on the venue and stations. DPR-01 BASIC provides introductory preparation.

Collapsed-Structure Operations — BASIC

An introduction to rescue work following structural collapse. Initial scene and structural assessment are combined with preparation for deployment. Key topics include rubble-site hazards, personal protective equipment and communication between rescuers.
