Assessment, monitoring, resuscitation and evacuation decisions in moderate and severe hypothermia, with separate advanced first aid and professional pathways.
Training enquiriesThis module develops pre-hospital care for moderate and severe accidental hypothermia. Scenarios include deterioration, limited resources and prolonged evacuation.
Training content
- Detailed assessment and monitoring.
- Patient packaging, active external rewarming and protection during prolonged evacuation.
- Resuscitation appropriate to participants’ qualifications.
- KPP: resuscitation support, thermal protection, evacuation and cooperation with emergency medical services.
- RM: advanced resuscitation, monitoring, medication and transport decisions.
- Basic recognition and protection of frostbite injuries.
Participants practise reassessment and responding to changes. The KPP pathway excludes procedures reserved for medical professionals. Avalanche-related topics are adapted to the group. Patient temperature and observations are simulated without deliberately cooling participants.
Who we train
Rescuers with advanced first aid qualifications and paramedics working in field and specialist rescue. Exercises reflect participants’ qualifications; groups with similar competency levels are preferred.
How we train
Case analysis, workshops and extended scenarios, including simulated evacuation. Observation and debriefing of decisions and task performance, without a formal examination.
Settings and connections
Classroom, training facility or outdoor setting, including the client’s premises. Exercise conditions and equipment are agreed with the organiser.
